Collins-Robert Concise App Bewertungen

No publisher support...no recommendation

Expensive, but excellent product I thought would last me for many years. Little did I know I would have to change computers and Collins would not let me transfer the program to my new one. I cannot ever recommend a product that the publisher will not support. Totally wasted $25... I provided the order number and the receipt for payment and Ultralingua will not do anything to permit me to re-install. Horrible service!

The pronunciation audio is bad

Audio for the pronunciation takes three or more clicks to access. I wish there is a dedicated button for the audio of the word so that it is accessible in one click. The sound quality of the audio is not so good, often with the beginning of the word clipped.

Number of words too little

There are too many words I can’t find, they need to increase the number of words. I can find more on the Larousse dictionary that is also much cheaper. For $15, they should have way more words.

My Favorite Dictionary So Far

I looked high and low for a good French dictionary app that was stable, didn’t crash, had good translations, and worked offline. This is the only one I could find that fit the bill. It’s not perfect but I’m happy to pay $15 for something that just works when I need it to.

Great dictionary

A pretty amazing dictionary but extremely over-priced. Happy to have it

A modern dictionary

This dictionary translates words in a way that takes one to the various usages of the word more quickly than older versions of French-English dictionaries. The translations seem to be more to the point. And words are nicely matched up with expressions that have the word in it.

Conjugator Doesn’t Function — App Closes

Unfortunately, thee app closes every time I try to conjugate a verb. It is a very pricey app that doesn’t work properly. Please fix the bug.

C’est terrible

Over promised and under delivered. That’s this app in a nutshell. Lots of different words that I can find in other French-English dictionaries that are not present here. Difficult to navigate. Did I mention it’s convoluted and difficult to navigate? The “hear a word pronounced” feature that they have the gall to list as an in-app feature relies on you highlighting the word and asking iOS to “speak” it back to you. A huge disappointment all-round and definitely not worth the $15 paid.

Very practical, 🤘🔥

This app is a must. It covers many expressions, idioms and common phrases in both English and French. There are lots of positive points that you can enjoy learning with it. But there is one drawback that somehow gets really disappointing and it’s the audio option in iphone platform that you have to hold the word to let the « speak » option pop up. Instead they can have a simple icon for listening to prononciation just by touching it. Hope it gets done in update.

The Best

This is an exceptional bilingual dictionary. Must have.

Excellent for language, poor for usability

This app is really good for learning French. I love how words are broken down by separate meanings, how you can flip between French->English and English->French, all the wonderful examples, and all the compositional phrases! However, it’s just not a very usable app. It’s not very intuitive flipping between verb conjugations and translations (although on the iPad it is easier because you get a split screen). When searching a word, you can’t make the keyboard go away without actually hitting search (it would be great if you could just browse the results that automatically come up as you type). To get speech features you have to highlight the words and use the iOS option that comes up, which is a pain. It’s just really confusing. Anyway, for the sake of learning, get the app! They have a ways to go to make it more usable though.

Excellent, bien conçu, un véritable outil

Excellentes définitions, exemples nombreux et pertinents, conception intelligente. Un véritable outil de travail ou de loisir, selon l’heure ou le texte à traduire.

Not worth it

Helps with pronunciation? They’re only phonetic s no aural aide. Detailed definitions are one word i’d like my money back if I can get it. Simple dissatisfaction does not qualify I guess..

Worth it

It’s worth it to spend a little money and get this high quality product over the free French to English translators. They have an extensive list of example sentences which is very helpful.

Beau

Ça marche très magnifique pour moi qui étudie le français en debout.

Cumbersome but detailed

This is a little cumbersome and difficult to navigate and use, but it makes up for that with in depth definitions and example sentences. Great app.

C'est Parfait!

I'm going to France tomorrow for the 5th time in a year. I love this app. Translations are detailed, often with example phrases. I like looking at words I already know just to pick up a new French phrase or two. Tap on a word in an example phrase and that word is opened. Don't worry, the back arrow takes you back to the original word you were studying. Verb conjugations are complete. This is the only French/English dictionary I need.

Inadequate!

I just spent $17 for this dictionary, and within 10 minutes I've already been unable to find definitions of several words that I found with ease on the Collins dictionary site. And these weren't arcane words, but ones I had stumbled across, as an intermediate French student, in Courrier International: "mise en garde" (warning) and "bourbier" (quagmire). Until you can offer a complete dictionary similar to the one you have online, don't advertise it as such!!

Collins has been the gold standard

For over fifty years. If you need a dictionary of real quality this is it.

Initial Confusion was Unfounded

I was a bit confused when I first used this application. However after reading the introduction and the tips and tricks, I have found that this is an absolutely fantastic dictionary. It provides quite a few examples for each entry and is easy to use after just a minute or two.

Change of heart

I've gone from disliking this app to using it every day. I was wrong before. I should have taken time to get to know it and understand it, and now I have. I value it not only for helping me with my French pronunciation, but for providing a seemingly endless number of relevant examples for almost every word I look up. This app has become indispensable to me, and I'm grateful for everything it provides! Keep those examples coming!

Spotty

Having just read the first few pages of "Une ténébreuse affaire" with this dictionary aiding me, I can report that it is almost useless for reading works written before 1900 or so. Missing: coutil, guêtre, carnier, loup-cervier, factieux, rave (meaning betterave). Coverage is spotty.

The gold standard in translation dictionaries!

I have 3 different Collins-Robert dictionaries and have never found a better dictionary!

Very helpful

Well worth the investment - good idiomatic uses as well as explanations. Verb conjugations are useful. Flipping between French and English is easy. Multiple meanings are explained well.

Wthomas

Very helpful, detailed reference particularly when used as a second resource after Google translate. Explains idioms and acronyms.

Worth the money

This is expensive by app standards especially for something you can get dozens of for free. But you'll be bothered by ads with those and, worse, you won't find words unless you enter them in unconjugated original form with no prefix or suffix. This dictionary is just much more useful and pleasing.

Excellent

Excellent French-English dictionary. As a beginner student of French, I wish the dictionary provided IPA for the inflected forms of the verbs.

Awesome App

Excellent and comprehensive dictionary. I like that it is offline too.

Collins-Robert French-English Dictionary App

Excellent in giving lots of examples of usage. There are errors though, especially in the conjugations, so I keep my Larousse and my Bescherelle handy. However, the convenience of the app on a smartphone is unbeatable, so this Collins-Robert is my go-to.

Comprehensive

For a beginner it's great to quickly find the English version of words. Further, will find the French word from English. Verb conjugation a huge plus.

Excellent Resource

It's been an excellent resource for my French studies. My phone is always with me so it's always easy to look up new words especially when I cannot take my dictionary with me. A little pricey though and that's why I'm taking away 1 star from my rating

Mostly accurate for Americain English.

I use this app almost daily and find it excellent except when British spelling and usage don't correspond to Americain English.

For beginners only

This dictionary has a very limited range of vocabulary. I would say it's adequate for intermediate learners at best. Even free apps and google translate have a wider range of words. Definitely not worth the exorbitant price.

This is a keeper

This has proven to bean extremely useful French-Englsh dictionary because, not only is the equivalent word in the opposite language displayed, several variations in usage and application of the word being researched are provided and the conjugations of verbs are accessible without having to move to a different section.Having used this for several years now, I have one picayune quibble, which is that the dictionary needs to be updated and expanded more frequently as when readin modern French books and magazines, I come across neologues and argot for which I then need to consult Larousse which does not provide the ancillary information on usage etc., that this one does. Definitely deserves five stars.

M. Moi

Il est carrément le meilleur dictionnaire électronique sans besoin de wifi.

Excellent resource

Well worth the cost. I'm now tackling more advanced novels in French since looking up words with this app is so easy. Nice to have all the verb conjugations so readily available as well.

Best money I ever spent

An elegant marvel. I use it everyday. It has great illustrative phrases. Easy navigation.

No updates

Also please implement the system wide back gesture.

Valuable bi-lingual dictionary

Good first level bilingual dictionary. Accurate and thorough. Should be used in conjunction with Le Robert all French dictionary ASAP to grow your vocabulary exponentially. I'm speaking as a French teacher.

Poor dictionary

Bought this app because I own the paper version of Robert/Collins. This app is not even close to the paper version. Lots of words are missing, very few example sentences. Very disappointing.

A true French dictionary

This functions as a true French dictionary complete with IPA for all entries. As expected, multi-word expressions are hard to find, but it's great overall.

Great app, with one little issue

This is easily the best French dictionary app. A lot of care was put into making the interface clean and intuitive. And the content comes from LeRobert- arguably the most authoritative source possible for the French language. The only issue is that it's clumsy to close definitions. You open a definition by tapping on the word, but to close you have to click on a little "arrows" button on the other side of the screen. The definitions also stay open forever, so after awhile a bunch of definitions are open. I'd expect them to be closed automatically at some point, like when you open the app.

Completely broken

The new iOS7 update makes all three of my Collins dictionaries crash immediately on launch. That's an investment of nearly $100 rendered completely useless. Fix this!

Excellent application. Totally worth it.

I have purchased three of the ultralingua dictionaries. They are the best on the market. Keep it up!

Vast improvements

I like the "new" format, although it may have been implemented some time ago. I took 18 months off from French, so these improvements may have been in place for awhile. This is a thorough reference source. I may not ever use it to its fullest. 5 stars. -NK

Excellent

Indispensable aid. It shows you your searched word and nearby words. It recognizes verbs not in the infinitive. Highlight any word and it will conjugate it for you.

Barbod dejami

Awesome I use it every day And guess what, it fantastically Guides me through and that's not all I love it where translations are also included in the conjugation section

Magnifique

This is a great app for learning a language - much more than a dictionary. It's fun, smart, informative. Really a pleasure to use.

Outstanding.

I love the new interface. I'm a daily through-the-day student user. Fast search with everything I need instantly without having to fumble around. No mode switching required. Have had this a while in its prior version and I am BLOWN AWAY by the rewrite. Nicely done, ultralingua!
